New Evangelisation

Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith further defines the new evangelization like this “In its precise sense, evangelization is the missio ad gentes directed to those who do not know Christ. In a wider sense, it is used to describe ordinary pastoral work, while the phrase ‘new evangelization’ designates pastoral outreach to those who no longer practice the Christian faith.” In the context of the Syro-Malabar eparchy of Great Britain, new evangelization has a great significance. In the post-modern, secularised British society one of the important duties of Syro-Malabar faithful is to join hands with our bishop who is dedicated ‘to do the work of an evangelist.’ The goal of evangelization is the transmission of the Christian faith. Evangelization in general is the everyday work of the Church. With the assistance of the Holy Spirit, this so-called ordinary evangelizing activity can be endowed with renewed vigour. New methods and new forms of expression are needed to convey the gospel message to the people of today.
