Blessing of the Holy Oil

The Syro-Malabar Eparchy of Great Britain solemnly celebrated the Consecration of the Holy Oil on Monday, 25 May 2026, at St Alphonsa Cathedral. The sacred celebration, led by Mar Joseph Srampickal, marked an important moment in the liturgical life of the Eparchy, as the blessed oils will be used throughout the year in parishes and missions across Great Britain for the administration of the sacraments and other sacred rites.

Concelebrating with the Bishop were Proto-Syncellus Very Rev. Dr Antony Chundelikkat, Chancellor Rev. Dr Mathew Pinakkattu, Rev. Dr Varghese Thanamavumkal, and priests serving in different missions and parishes of the Eparchy. The solemn liturgy reflected the unity of the clergy and faithful gathered in prayer and communion.

In his address following the Holy Qurbana, Bishop Mar Joseph Srampickal reminded the faithful, religious, trustees, and mission representatives of their shared responsibility in strengthening the unity and witness of the Church. He encouraged all to work together in the spirit of service, faith, and ecclesial communion for the growth of the Eparchy.

A Pastoral Consultation Meeting was held in the afternoon, during which commission chairpersons presented reports and outlined forthcoming pastoral initiatives and programmes. The Secretary of the Pastoral Council, Mr Romils Mathew, presented updates on the activities organised during the Discipline Year, while mission representatives shared suggestions and reflections concerning the pastoral life and mission of the Eparchy.
