It is with profound sorrow that the Holy See announces that Pope Francis, the 266th Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, has passed away at the age of 88m on 21st April, 2025.
In this moment of collective grief, the eparchy has invited the faithful to offer prayers for the eternal repose of his soul. On the 23rd of April , 2025, Bishop Mar Joseph Srampickal celebrated Holy Rasa for the repose of the Holy Father. The Holy Qurbana will be offered in all parishes, missions, and proposed missions throughout the Eparchy for the eternal repose of the Holy Father’s soul during the official mourning period.
Throughout his pontificate, which began in March 2013, Pope Francis guided the Church with humility, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the marginalised. He was a tireless advocate for the dignity of every human person and a prophetic voice for justice, peace, and environmental stewardship.
“Let us honour his legacy by coming together in faith and gratitude, remembering the shepherd who led us with such tender care. Pope Francis holds a uniquely special place in the history of our Eparchy. It was through his pastoral wisdom and fatherly love that our Syro-Malabar Catholic community in Great Britain was established as an Eparchy. His vision and trust have been foundational to our growth and flourishing in the United Kingdom”. said Bishop Mar Joseph Srampickal in his statement to the faithful.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him
