On Saturday, 6th September 2025, more than 1,400 young people came together for Handhoosa 2025, the much-anticipated Syro-Malabar Eparchial Youth Gathering. Organised by the Syro-Malabar Youth Movement (SMYM), this remarkable event united youth from across the Eparchy in a day marked by spiritual renewal, cultural pride, and joyful fellowship.
The gathering commenced with Sapra and solemn Eucharistic Adoration, during which the participants entered into heartfelt prayer, praise, and worship, setting a reverent and uplifting tone for the day. This was followed by the celebration of the Holy Qurbana, during which the newly revised English Taksa (Holy Qurbana text) was introduced – a historic moment for English-speaking Syro-Malabar faithful.
In his homily, Bishop Mar Joseph Srampickal offered a profound reflection on the meaning of Handhoosa, encouraging the young faithful to live their Christian vocation with courage, authenticity, and conviction amidst the challenges of today’s world.
Following the liturgy, Rev. Fr Joseph Mukkat, Youth Commission Director, addressed the assembly, joyfully reminding all present of the grace of walking with Christ. Allen Jossy Mathew, Eparchial Youth President also delivered a youth address. Their words were followed by engaging ice-breaker activities that fostered a spirit of energy, friendship, and communion among the youth.
Youth were treated to The Nazrani Show, a creative and lively portrayal of Syro-Malabar traditions, which set the stage for the afternoon’s cultural programmes, featuring a vibrant display of heritage through Margam Kali, folk dances, and musical pieces that celebrated the rich and enduring legacy of the Syro-Malabar community.
The afternoon programme was further enriched by a moving performance from the SaMaYaM Band, SMYM’s own musical ensemble, whose faith-inspired music lifted hearts in prayerful joy. The day concluded with an exhilarating performance by Prodigyl, a dynamic Syro Malabar rapper from the United States, whose spirited musical witness left the gathering with a memorable and joy-filled finale.
In a moment of anticipation and excitement, the date and venue for Handhoosa 2026 were formally announced: Saturday, 26th September 2026 at The New Bingley Hall, Birmingham. A huge congratulations to the SMYM leaders and animators who worked tirelessly for Handhoosa 2025, whose dedication and commitment made the event a resounding success. Jitto David (Youth Commission Secretary), Joel Tomy (Vice President), Anjumol Johny (Secretary), Andrea George (Joint Secretary), Judin Jose (Treasurer), and Ritty Tomichen (Ex Officio) coordinated the event with great vision and hard work for Isho. The scale and spirit of the gathering stood as a testament to their efforts. Handhoosa 2025 was more than a youth gathering – it was a spiritual milestone, a cultural celebration, and a powerful testimony to the unity, vitality, and deep faith of the Syro-Malabar youth in the United Kingdom.
